Sir Alex Ferguson Backs High Price of Charlie Adam to Frustration of Liverpool

Manchester United boss Sir Alex Ferguson has put his full weight behind Blackpool manager Ian Holloway's £14 Million price tag for former Rangers Midfielder Charlie Adam. Following the Seasider's match with the Red Devils on Tuesday where Adam led his team to a 2-0 lead until the last fifteen minutes of the match when a last gasp Dimitar Berbatov brace with a Javier Hernandez strike sandwiched in between got United a 2-3 victory.

Sir Alex made the following comments in his press conference:

“We just couldn't handle Charlie Adam's free-kicks and corners. We were all over the place.

“His corner kicks are worth £10million in themselves. The boy is an incredible striker of the ball.”

Ferguson's comments spoke music to Holloway's ears whom has been fending of Liverpool's bids for his captain despite Adam putting in a transfer request in order to try and force a move to Merseyside. Holloway addressed the situation in his press conference as well.

"Charlie will have to accept whatever we do," said Holloway

"In the summer he will have 12 months left on his contract. [That is] a whole new ball park."

"I'll speak to the owners and let them know how Charlie feels but we have a duty to the fans to run the club professionally."

With reports that Aston Villa are also pursuing the star Liverpool will have competition to acquire his services. However, it does not look like a move will happen as the Reds are reportedly eying up alternatives. The situation with Adam mirrors the situation with Luis Suarez as both targets look to be more likely to be able to happen in the summer as the transfer window is almost shut.

The Pursuit of Adam-ness, the New Alonso?

Blackpool's Charlie Adam Remains a Tangerine for Now

Blackpool's and Ian Holloway's prize asset and want-away Liverpool target Charlie Adam remains a Seasider for the time being. After what is becoming a fractious debate for the services of the Scottish midfielder both sides seem at odds. With Liverpools initial offer of £4.7 Million rejected the Reds are once again looking to bring in funds for an additional bid.

The 25 year old is valued at £14 Million by Blackpool and Holloway according to this mornings reports from both the Daily Express and Liverpool's NESN page. While Holloway's comments this weekend following Blackpool's loss to Sunderland were rebuffing any attempts to let his man go, he is now stated as saying that, "for the sake of the player(Adams) he hopes the deal goes through."

Adam put in a transfer request this weekend, as well as put in a fine performance for his current manager, who tips him as an excellent replacement for Liverpool's long gone Xabi Alonso(Real Madrid) who was the driving piston in Rafa Benitez's Liverpool engine that finished 2nd in the 2008-2009 English Premier League season.

The young Scot would bring extra quality to the Liverpool midfield and most likely would partner play in a deeper role, much as Alonso did, allowing Steven Gerrard and Raul Meireles to push forward and support Torres. If Suarez and Adams both arrive he is likely to fight for position with Meireles and Maxi Rodriguez.
